“They delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his aw. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail. Their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper.” Psalm 1:2-3
One of the songs on my new album WILD LOVE (coming Fall 2016) is a song called ROOTS. I wrote it from a place of wrestling with my own calling. Feeling like I work so hard to grow but don’t see the growth and fruit in my life that I’d hope to see or that I see in other’s lives. God showed me gently one afternoon as I was praying about these things that He has planted me to be an Oak tree not a weed and that I should tend me tree (my calling) for growth instead of spending so much time protecting it out of fear of death. He showed me how weeds grow quickly but don’t last and die quickly. But in contrast how an oak grows so slowly you can hardly notice the change. If you looked everyday at an oak it would look the same. But if you left and came back 10 years later to visit the same tree you would be amazed at the growth and change. So we should not judge out lives, calling and worth by the daily changes we see. What makes the Oak grow? It is the roots growing down deep where no one sees. And the same is true for us. We should keep sending our roots down deep, keep spending time with the LORD and these times are often times no one sees - but as with the tree it is with us that these times are what makes us grow into fulfilling the calling we were made for by becoming the people He made us to be.
Here are the chorus lyrics for my song ROOTS:
Growing deep into the stream.
Brimming up through depth of being.
From what’s unseen.
Comes all good things.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” (NLT)
I love praying as I make these bracelets for the ladies who will wear them to be encouraged by the reminder of the truth they offer. "Talk about them (God's word) when you sit at home and when you walk along the road. When you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands..." Deuteronomy 6:7-8
