Oh how overwhelming life can get sometimes. Whether it’s one big thing that hits us like a tidal a wave or a conglomeration of all the little things that add up, we often need help remembering to pause and ‘just breathe’. I know when my life feels like it’s spinning out of control my first instinct is usually to grasp anything and everything I can get my hands on to try to control it. My attempts, of course, are futile and leave me always with less than before I tried to take control.
These words, “just breathe” are a gentle reminder that it’s not up to me. I am not the one ultimately responsible. Yes, I should be faithful and be a good steward of all I’ve been given but I do not carry the burden of ultimate responsibility. We were each made to be human ‘beings’ not human ‘do-ings.’ Yet, it seems everywhere we turn in our culture our worth seems more to be measured by what we do instead of who we are. So we work harder and harder to do more and more. We like having things to show for ourselves at the end of the day. We feel guilty for resting, for reaching our limits, for not being able to accomplish more. We compare ourselves to others. All of these things feed the roots of worry which grows to express itself in our lives in all kinds of different negative ways. As you wear these words, “Just Breathe” let this be a reminder of Who is in control of your life, and Who is ultimately responsible.
1 Peter 5:7, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” (NLT)
God is ultimately responsible for your children, your marriage, your job, your friendships, your finances, your calling, your peace, your future, your everything! You can rest knowing He’s got it covered, He’s got YOU covered. Yes, do your best, but know too that right next to your best efforts His strength is made perfect in your weakness. So rest. Take a deep breath. It’s okay if you have crumbs on your floor and dust on your furniture. Just Breathe. You are most certainly cared for right along with all the many things you care for!
Philippians 4:6-7, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” (MSG)
I love praying as I make these bracelets for the ladies who will wear them to be encouraged by the reminder of the truth they offer. "Talk about them (God's word) when you sit at home and when you walk along the road. When you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands..." Deuteronomy 6:7-8
